Mrs. Farlow's 2nd Grade

Welcome

Summer Practice: Summer is a great time to refresh and strengthen grade level skills. Please try to practice about 20 to 30 minutes daily.

Incoming 2nd Graders:
  • Reading: Read a book every day. Discuss the characters, setting, and events with your child.
  • Math: Practice basic addition and subtraction facts from 0-30. They should know these from memory.
  • Writing: A great way to practice writing is to have your child keep a journal about everything they do over summer vacation. Encourage them to start sentences with a capital letter and end sentences with punctuation marks. They can even illustrate a picture to go with their journal entry.

Outgoing 2nd Graders:
  • Reading: Read a book every day. Discuss the characters, setting, and events with your child. Encourage your child to read a chapter book once a week.
  • Math: Practice addition and subtraction of two- and three-digit numbers with and without regrouping. Study basic multiplication facts from 0-12.
  • Writing: Practice writing in cursive. A great way to practice cursive writing is to have your child keep a journal about everything they do over the summer vacation.
